A friend gave me a tiny 9cmx14cm 1960’s Observers tourist road atlas of Britain. Have just started to transform it so that relevant flora and fauna can burst forth. Really enjoying using my tiny hole punch with hammer-feeling a bit tailor of Gloucester-not finished yet

Julia McKenzie

Great Grand father, great great Grandfather and Grandfather, all called John Henry Lowry. Photos taken about 1918. The little boy is my father who is now 87. Great Grandfather was a sea captain in the 19th century and up to WW1. The paper cut ship in a bottle is based on a drawing of a ship he drew in his personal diary. It signifies the terrible voyage he made on the Fontenaye from Cardiff to Brazil and then back to Falmouth on a packet ship he captained in 1892. My Great Grandfather and the crew nearly died, trapped in sea ice, they dodged ice bergs and avoided certain death- a terrible voyage of 106 days. You can see a painting of the ship here . Much more work to come
